 Spring Event
March 23-27

I don’t know about you, but I am so over neutrality when it comes to decorating. With this last year being the way it has been, I want some excitement in my life and I’m not talking about a vacation in a hospital or in my own bedroom. I don’t care how beautifully your bedroom is decorated, when you’re sick–you’re sick. No amount of home decor is going to make you feel better if you can’t walk across the floor because you’re so sick. Hopefully, none of you have been there recently but I know some have been there during the last year. I’m ready for this whole thing to be OVER!

Well, there’s my rant. But, I must warn you, I’m about to go off again in this paragraph. I’m so tired of monochromatic color schemes. I want color. I know many of you won’t agree with this, and that’s OK. I’m glad there are those of you who have not lost their mind like I have. I just want to bring in color and lots of it this year. I just worked on getting some spring wreaths together and I realized how much joy it brought me to have lots of color–lots of different colors.

Have you ever noticed that when you buy something to go in your house in the spring it does not necessarily carry through during those fall months and into winter. If you look closely at most of your Autumn tones, they have a much more yellow undertone than your spring colors. Spring colors are clear and vibrant and give so much energy while your Fall tones seem to slow you down and let you stop and enjoy the coming months.

Many of you just want some ideas of how to bring those vibrant colors into your homes and be able to change them when Autumn comes. My “go-to” for this question is always–change out your pillow for the seasons. And boy does it work to energize your space for the upcoming spring and summer months. A lot of the pillows we’re getting in for this first event are indoor-outdoor pillows. They look great on a favorite sofa or chair as well as your front porch.

Of course, there are other ways to bring in spring-summer colors other than pillows. Have you ever thought of leaning pictures on your fireplace mantle for the upcoming months? Then just remove them when Autumn gets here, and create a new vignette going into the Autumn/Winter seasons. It’s almost like creating a new room to enjoy for the upcoming months.

Joe and I have been working on a new idea to bring some wall sconces to life. I’m first going to need a frame and board for which he is building. As noted before, I want color and he’s helping my ideas take flight and I’ll show it to you the minute it’s up and done. But first–I wanted to show you the difference between our brains. How this marriage has lasted 50 years and we still love each other has to be a miracle. This is all I asked him to do. Build a frame with a back these dimensions.

My drawing

He says wait. I have to clean this drawing up. It looked fine to me. Just do it!

No, after 30 minutes of drawing time he brings a drawing to me and says is this what you want?

Yes, I said that 30 minutes ago with my own drawing.

Just do it!

Aren’t we all that way in some respects? Instead of just doing, we make plans, graphs, drawings and on and on and sometimes never get around to doing anything. I’m not saying that about him. Believe me, he knows I will be on him until it gets done. And, rarely, when it comes to working on things for my store, does that happen. He’s even the type of husband that gets his clothes picked up each morning. So blessed!

So whatever you’re dreaming of getting done, just do it. Tomorrow may be too late. That’s my motto as each birthday passes. I remember one day at market, I stopped to get a latte. My partner asked me, “Do you get a latte every day?” I answered with, what I think is a very profound statement coming from me. “No, only on special days. And when you are my age, every day is special.”

So today is the day to quit dreaming of what colors and bold patterns you’re going to be bringing in. Just do it! We’ll help you make it work.

Blessings!

Debbie
