Well, it’s summer time and I just wanted to share something that will be so easy. The hard part will be getting the basket for the price I got this one for.
I love to go to a garage sale when the husband is running things. He just wants to get rid of this “junk.” And to think that his wife only yesterday called them her treasures. Well, I am sure this basket must have been one Aunt Martha used for many a chicken dinner picnic. I’d say it was worth $.50, wouldn’t you? Her husband wanted me to take it for nothing, but I begged him to take $.50 for it. He finally took my money and I told him he drove a hard bargain.
Well, let’s hurry and get it home and get started on the transformation.
Well, I got my trusty can of white spray paint. One can wasn’t enough. This wicker really soaks up the paint. I used Krylon. So now my $.50 basket has cost me $6. Oh well, it’s worth it. It’s a big basket.
The next step was to get a clay pot and add floral foam to it. I put the strong foam in it and glued it in with Liquid Nails. (Do you know what the wind is like out in the country in Kansas?) Then I remembered I had a wonderful fern out in the shop that would fill this BIG basket.
Luckily this picnic basket came with a shelf in it. If yours doesn’t and you need some height to bring the fern out of the basket, use a few bricks. Believe me, we could use the bricks on my front porch to keep this basket on my porch and not the neighbor’s pasture.
(Picture 4 & 5) Now go to your favorite floral store (or come to mine) and get a beautiful petunia vine. I have to confess I only have one vine of petunias in this one as I had a little one left from an arrangement I did for a customer. I also used geraniums, but the petunias are so much more realistic.
I then put the finishing touches on the project. I love to see the American flag on my porch all summer long. After adding the flag, I moved it to it’s new summer home. I can’t wait for the picnics and fun we’ll have as a family all summer long. Hopefully, I’m creating summer memories for my grandchildren they’ll tell to their children about their grandmother’s house during the summer.
I know this project is elementary, but I just wanted to share it with you for the next time you see a picnic basket that needs a new home. It is great to participate in Metamorphosis Monday. I always have fun reading all the other transformations that happen.

Debbie,
What a beautiful transformation!!! I am so thrilled to see your creativity being shared with ladies in the Land of Blog! Keep those inspirations coming our way!
Fondly,
Pat
Pat ,
Thanks for your kind words. I’m looking forward to sharing many ideas in the future. Thanks for your “go for it” spirit you’ve given me as you’ve visited my store. I knew there was something special about you:)
More, Please!! A beautiful project, & you made it seem so ‘do-able’. I would love to see more photos of your creations as I don’t get to Wichita much any more, now that we have moved to OK. We have driven through Rose Hill many times in the past and never knew about your business.
What a great find and at such an awesome price! I never heard of petunia vines. Guess I should get out and check these things out. I’m a perennial person. Annuals are not in my budget. I’m enjoying them through your arrangement tho. Absolutely a beautiful transformation on that basket. Thanks for sharing.
Marcia,
Thanks for the comment. I plan to give a lot more decorating tips on Metamorphosis Monday. I’ve been gone to market this last week so give me a few days and I’ll be up and running with more decorating fun. I wish you could come to the store. We’re in our barn out here in the country. I send invitations to our events. Perhaps you might want to bring some friends and make a day of it. I’d love to meet you. You can sign up for emails on my website. I send invitations that way also. Thanks again!
You make it seem easy enough that I could do it. I love the look of your finished project. Thank you for your inspiration!
Thanks for the comment. It was easy. The hardest part will be finding the basket:)
