Spring Event in the Barn II begins Tuesday, April 12-16

Hello Friends,

Something I saw in one of my favorite magazines triggered a thought for this newsletter. As I stroll down memory lane today and remember some great times from the past. I really wish we could rekindle these everyday moments we had when we were young and so alive–young an innocent and so many fewer cares than we now have.

I was walking in a store and I saw a young mother with her child in the shopping cart. They were dressed up so nicely that I wondered if they had someplace special to go or had just been. It triggered so many times that as a teenager on a Saturday I would hop on a bus all dressed up ready to go shopping downtown in the large Macy-Innes building in downtown Wichita. I would usually head to the “Mezzanine” which is where they put all the sale items. Sometimes, if they were having a “Ridiculous Sale” as they used to call it, I would venture across the street to Henry’s or Buck’s. Some women, much older than I, would wear fancy gloves and hats. But of course, even then, a hat would not fit on my bountiful locks of thick, curly, red hair that also looked like a Brillo soap pad. (The straightening iron has taken away the Brillo soap pad curse.) But I did have a pair of beautiful leather gloves with real fur trim. I lost one of them and I have missed them the rest of my life. (The memory was probably more special than the gloves themselves.)

There are lots of things I miss about those days. But as I thought back to them I thought about my favorite magazine “Southern Lady.” When reading that magazine you would think that everyone in the South has endless tea parties and get togethers and that they all attend the Kentucky Derby dressing like those attending for almost every occasion. But, I do imagine there are those Southern Belles that enjoy that little pleasure still.

I have a daughter in Chicago that does her own version of the “Southern Belle” thing. She loves to do everything up so beautifully. My granddaughters just went to a masquerade ball last week and they are nowhere near the South. They had beautiful formal dresses as well as the mask like Marie Antoinette wore. One of my other daughters was invited to a “Galentine” party in February where the hostess made the guests feel so special by all the decorations and table settings that she had.

Enough travel down memory lane. I just know, that if you think about it, the way we decorate, in large part, stems from beautiful memories that we have experienced in our lifetime. Maybe it’s a special Christmas decoration, a beautiful place setting, a piece of artwork on your wall, a memory of your mother and grandmother and I could go on and on. But one thing I do know–we try to surround ourselves with beauty as a buffer to what may be going on in our lives.

At our next Event you are going to see LOTS of new items. Hopefully, some that will make your home that special refuge to friends who just need a special place to go and get some much needed girlfriend therapy for your guests as well as yourself. Plus, as an added bonus I’m going to run a special promotion on floral stems. Buy 2 and get the third one half price. And as always, we would love to help you put your floral together if you would so choose to experience that service.

And as always, I can’t wait to see “ya’ll. Please tell your friends about us. And hopefully, we’ll show you some “Southern Lady Hospitality.”
