Pillows are a great addition to deck furniture to make them more colorful and comfortable. (As illustrated in our last post.) But even without pillows, puppies have a tendency to make themselves comfortable on furniture:) That’s what happened here in this picture. (Notice the missing back cushion, torn middle cushion corner and missing buttons in center of each.) The homeowner had a very difficult time keeping the cushions out of the dog’s mouth. It was only the back cushions, though, that the dog enjoyed. So, we coordinated fabrics and I constructed new cushions for the back. I know they were comfortable, but I don’t know for sure what the dog thought.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a before picture of this deck. The story, though, is familiar to many of us. The furniture came with cushions that looked nice in the beginning. However, those ones that come with the furniture aren’t usually very durable and often show wear after just one season. This homeowner was debating between replacing the entire set of furniture or just replacing the cushions and fabric. When I showed her this fabric, she loved it and knew that it would make her furniture look new again. With new cushions, pillows, and all the accessorizing that the homeowner did herself, this deck is a wonderful spot for relaxing.

My sewing for the outdoors has not just been limited to pillows and cushions. This deck now feels like a cabana on the beach with the addition of privacy curtains. This is my all-time favorite outdoor spot that I had a hand in creating. The homeowner wanted some privacy from the neighbors but didn’t want to completely obstruct the view. So, we designed curtains that could be opened or closed as the need dictated. Neither one of us imagined what a change in ambiance this would create. The cabana-like feel was a pleasant surprise.
Don’t let your decorating dreams be limited to the indoors! Don’t forget about our warehouse/garage sale that’s coming up fast: July 18, 10 to 6, July 19, 10 to 5, and July 20, 10 to 2.

Love what you did with the porch “curtains” and all the cushions! Great job April!!
