Happy Spring, to all of you!

I am so grateful for the seasons. It seems like spring just brings us new hope, even when things around us are falling apart. So with spring comes some confessions I have to make about clothing obsessions. Most of you have already figured it out, but I just need to confess my shortcomings before you.

I grew up in a family of 5 children, so you can imagine that clothes were not an obsession in our family. We usually got hand me downs from the neighbors, and loved it. When I was in high school I had 5 dresses and I rotated those dresses for every day of the week: Monday-Friday. I did wear jeans for the weekend. One dress was my Monday dress, Tuesday was my Tuesday dress and so on like that. Yes, it was the good old days when girls wore dresses to school all of the time. When I finished my sophomore year I got a job and boy oh boy did I like buying clothing. I can’t say that it was the only thing I spent my money on, but a good portion of it went to buy clothing. So I developed a pretty good closet full of clothes.

(Sisters, if you are reading this right now, I chose the best picture of you two, and it’s the worst picture of me.)

I wish I could say that I had a heart to share these clothes with my sisters, but I did not. I know my sisters wished that they had the resources to buy more clothing, but they were not old enough to have a job after school.

I am glad that I can laugh about this now, but at the time, I did NOT think that what I am about to tell was funny. Many of you have met some of my sisters and you might remember Cyndi from working here at the shop with me lately. But one day, at school, when I was walking down the stairwell, I saw her walking in the crowd going up the stairwell. What!!! She had on some of my clothes. When I got closer to her I asked her very sweetly—no, not really. WHY ARE YOU WEARING MY CLOTHES? “Well,” she answered, “Mother told me I could.”

We laugh about it many times over, but the truth is, I wish I would have been a little more giving than I was as a teenager. I thank God that He has helped me be more giving to people who don’t have a lot. I told my son one day when we were giving some clothing to charity that this is our way of helping poor people have nice things to enjoy.

So when I show you some of the clothing that April has brought into the shop for Spring, I know you’ll think about donating or giving some of your “hardly ever used” clothing to special people who might enjoy them more or for a season like you have. I’ve learned that when I bring new items into my closet, I need to part with the same amount of old ones.

I’m seeing a lot of “mint green” this year.

And how much more “happy” can you get with yellow flowers?

Isn’t this a comfortable looking dress? Wouldn’t this be a great Easter dress?

I love that the skirts and dresses are longer now. And if you don’t like long, but need to cover some “imperfections” on your legs, how about skinny jeans with some of the shorter dresses and tops. White pants and jeans always make you look “classy.”

And of course, we have lots of new home décor.

And as always, we can’t wait to see you!
