Now, on to furniture makeovers!
I wanted to bring you up to date on the rest of the dining room redo. I finished staining the trestle of the table and giving it drying time just in time for Easter. I just have not had time to put the polyurethane on it. I’ll bet you can’t even tell. It won’t get done for a while (Like maybe, Christmas)
I am experimenting with a new gel stain and wanted to show it to you. It’s Minwax’s black gel stain. The name of it is “Antique Black.” It does go on a little differently than the “General Finishes” stain. It’s not really a big deal. But the drying time is about 12 to 24 hours. A far cry different than General Finishes 1 to 3 week time.
I’m working on a project for Vintage Market Days–May 4, 5, and 6.
This first picture is a picture of the buffet before I started staining it. It also has a mirror to go on it. When it’s all done I’ll show you the completed project.
This next picture is a picture of it after I stained it.
It’s quite an improvement. However, a notable difference in the two stains is that the “General Finishes” stain has a beautiful shine to it after you stain it and after it is dry. The “Minwax” does not. It is a must that I put a protective coat of polyurethane on it very soon. I am excited to see how it looks after that is done. I’m thinking the big difference between the two products is that the ingredient that gives the General Finishes Gel Stain the beautiful shine that it does, is what makes it take so long to dry.
I have to do all these projects between getting the shop ready for all the events. Please believe me, I am not complaining. I’m just letting you know that most people don’t take this long to get these projects done. Also, many of you ask me about doing these projects and how they turn out. I don’t want to discourage any one of you from doing this yourself. It won’t take you near as long as long as you keep on the project for several days. I just have to work it into my work schedule for the shop. I enjoy doing it and I especially enjoy the satisfaction of looking at the completed projects. (Whenever that is.)
