Well, my little girlfriends.  This is the week we’ve all been preparing for.  Yep, it’s finally here.  And, true to form, I did get my tree up and decorated on December 15.  Well, I decorated some of it on the 15th, some on the 16th, and some on the 17th and on and on I’ll go.  Somehow, a designer is never quite finished with the design until she takes its down.  Honestly, I never think I’m through with it until it’s gone.  Something always needs straightened or angled a different way.

As I told several of you about my plans to put a 3′ angel on the top of my tree, I promised I would share what it looked like, if I liked it.  And, if I didn’t like it I would say “Well, that was fun and never do it again.”  That way none of you would know that my design turned out to be a real “dog.”  The truth is–I loved it and wanted to share it with you.

I remember, one evening, as we were finishing our dinner I told my husband about my plan to top the tree with a 3 ‘ angel, and he looked at me and said, “No, Debbie, it can’t be done.”  And as I looked at him sternly and said, “Do NOT tell me it can’t be done.  You know what that does to me!?!”  And as we both moved on to another subject, I wondered how in the world I was going to get that angel on top of that tree without my husband’s help.  Deep down I knew he knew that I was going to make it happen even if I had to get a crane to put it atop the tree.

Well, several days later, I moved the angel into the living room and wondered if he was going to let me try to put it up there by myself.  One evening, I heard the pitter- patter of little feet in my living room and I knew that is was not Santa nor his elves.

No, it was, what looked to be a myriad of angels atop the tree as I entered the living room.  Thank you, dear husband.  I knew we could do it.  Then I went to work decorating it in a rather monochromatic scheme.  Truthfully, after counting up how much something like this would cost to do in a client’s house, I figured if they furnished the tree, it would probably cost around $1,500 in ornaments and other elements of picks and flowers.  The tree I used?  It was our 25 year old tree that I have said every year for the last 10, that I was going to trade it in for a new one.  So look how much money I’ve saved in using my old tree all these years!

Truth is, girls, I’m tired.  So I tried to think of the easiest way of getting a great look for my light fixture in the formal dining, without a lot of fuss.  So I used a garland that I had out in the shop–twisted it  from the top down on the chandelier–let it hang as natural as the garland would allow and added a few burlap poinsettias.  I hate to admit it.  But it only took me 10 minutes.  I would love to tell you I slaved over it for hours, but the truth is–when you use quality products–the products speak for themselves.  They make a designer’s life so much easier.

Well, my dear little girl friends, as the season draws to an end, please let us take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. And if you have time, May I share this You Tube Video with you. It so exemplifies what Christmas is really all about. If there is a commercial at the beginning of the video you can skip it. I promise the video is really worth the time you’ll take to view it.
