Spring Event in the Barn

Welcome to Chapter 4 of the continuing story of “How Not to buy Furniture.”

My wonderful husband agreed to take me back to Kansas City to meet with the designer and purchase the furniture I had already picked out. I was not sure of the measurements of the furniture I was going to purchase so I sent the designer a drawing of the room and ideas of what I wanted and if it would all fit in the room. Well, shall we say, we made it fit by moving some of the tables out and not using them and I knew I’d be addressing smaller tables in the future. As you all know, this is something I love to do. I love to buy for the store here, and it was like that only I was buying for only me. And–that is soooo much fun.

Here’s the fabrics. Do you think they’ll work? Well, they are going to, because I’m going to make them work. I love picking fabrics and I was literally on a “high” when I came away from the session. It was a lot like it is when I’ve started buying all day at market and I come back to the hotel room at the end of the day and I ask myself, “What have I done?” I begin to doubt myself and start to think, “Am I losing my mind?” And then I settle down and know it’s going to be ok. Don’t doubt yourself.

I will keep you updated and when I pull it all together–artwork, rug, pillows, chandelier and on and on. It’s never truly done. Don’t worry, husband, as you read this. I have saved you so much money because this was a sale. So I have so much more money to pick out the accessories.

And as to the chandelier–well we found the electrical box in the ceiling. And of course, as true to his style of doing things, my husband was very concerned that there was not enough solid wood to attach the light to that would support it. His only remedy wo

But as I told him, no worries. We’ll just redo the ceilings on the first floor. Put as many holes in the ceiling as you need. We have needed to do it for several years because I forgot I had bathwater running upstairs and it came through on the ceiling in the kitchen. Besides, the popcorn ceiling has got to go. Now’s the time to do it all. Right?

And that way he, my husband, can make the chandelier, so sturdy that the grandkids can swing from it.

My husband can really make some unusual faces when I spring surprises on him like this. But now he’s used to the idea and I’m busy working on finding a contractor to do the work. Note to husband: “no problem, dear. Make the holes as big as you need.”

But know, I’m busy getting the shop ready for that Spring Event here in the barn. I hope we can have a wonderful reopening for the season, and things are really looking good.

Mark your calendars for March 23-27 and let’s decorate those spaces that we are using so much more than we ever dreamed we would.

Blessings!
Debbie
