Spring Event March 23-27

Hello Everyone,

I hope you’re all enjoying the beautiful weather we are having. To me, it’s the best time to have a hot bowl of soup and dream about your next big decorating endeavor. Sometimes, this time of year just really gets to me. I wonder if Spring will ever get here and the next thing you know, I’m seeing little crocus peak through the snow and it is a beautiful reminder of God’s faithfulness to us.

As mentioned in the prior newsletters, I’ve kind of gotten into this “go bold or go home mode.” It’s just fun not to follow all the rules because I’d miss all the fun awaiting me. One of my friends and I were at a show and I wondered if the show promoters would allow me to do something that I had wanted to do. it was not mentioned in the guidelines. I was going to ask permission, when my friend stopped me and said, “Don’t ask permission, ask forgiveness.” Wise advice for someone like me.

I painted a chandelier in the shop last week. To me, the color was not as brilliant as I had wanted it to be, so why not just do something about it. I want it “all” to make a statement of who I am, and who I was when I leave this place. As one of my grandchildren told one of their friends, “My grandmother is not your normal grandmother.” If you like something, don’t let someone talk you out of it. It is your house, and you will have to live with it, not them. If you’re not sure of yourself, work on becoming more confident. If you want to take up painting at 80 years old, do it. Look at Grandma Moses and all of the artwork she created and is remembered for these many years later. You are NEVER too old.

From drab to fab

How to become more confident—I once read a book and from it was my biggest and best takeaway was to do something you are afraid to do every day. I’ve tried to practice that every day since. It’s surprising how much our fears hold us back. Now, I am not talking about bungee jumping or going cliff diving. I’m talking about really small steps like learning a new task on the computer or something a little less dangerous than skydiving. You will be surprised how those baby steps lead to gigantic steps.

I can remember when I first shared my dream of opening a business with my friends. I shared with them how I wanted it to be a place where they would feel safe and welcoming. Coffee would be served and they would feel safe in telling me their prayer requests and some secrets of their hearts. They looked at me and gave me this look of, “Sure…..Right…..that’ll never happen.” But, I took the first step and the rest is history.

So while the weather is treacherous outside and the days seem to go by like years, learn new tasks. Try something you are afraid to do each day. And if you fail, give yourself permission to fail. Sometimes I say what Thomas Edison said about discovering, I think it was the light bulb. “Well I know now what won’t work in this endeavor.” And maybe it won’t work now, but what about a few days down the road, or years. Remember, God made us amazing, creative creatures.

My products are coming in little by little. I can’t wait for them to all get here. And remember to mark your calendars for March 23-27 for our first event of the season. And, I am so ready to see all of you!

Blessings!
Debbie
