Dear Friends,

It’s here and a special thank you to my dear Mother and Father.

And, what do they have to do with the Grand Opening of my new shop.  Well, may I share this tribute to them?  First of all, we were not a wealthy family.  My father, at times, worked 3 different jobs to provide for 5 children and a wife.  No, we didn’t have any extra and you can bet most of our clothing was either hand me downs or from discount houses.  And really—is that so terrible?  But my sweet little mother, put back a little money each month because she wanted to leave an inheritance to each of her children.

At the end, one of the thoughts my father would always convey to me was, “Don’t spend money on me.  I want to leave it to all of my children.”  It wasn’t much, but it was a grand amount to my parents.  And I honor them for it.

And just how could I really honor them with this inheritance?  My mother and father loved my husband very much. They had always said that they wished they could do something special for him for all that he had done for them.  They never felt like they could do something for him and not do something equally as special for all the other son-in-laws. (They are great, also.)  And I do agree with that.

In the last few years, my husband had been telling me, “Debbie, I really want my barn back.”  It’s not that I didn’t hear him, it’s just that I really didn’t want to buy another barn.   So when my father passed away last February and the inheritance was passed out, I really wanted to do something with it that I felt would honor both of them and their sacrifice for the family.  So, I told my husband that I was going to buy him a new barn.  He was surprised, but said he’d really like his old barn and asked if we could build another one for me to use.Truthfully, that was the best idea and I am very grateful to him for suggesting that.

So as the new shop is opened, I want to dedicate it to my parents and the memory of a loving family they created for all of us.  The family, at times, is dysfunctional.  But aren’t they all???  May the memories we help you create here at Memories of Home, be a reminder of how creating a home environment that exudes warmth and grace to all who enter will live on and on.

Thank you and we love you all!!!!!  And mom and dad, if you can hear me, “I love you and thank you so much.”
