Warehouse Sale, July 10,11 and 12

Once again, thanks to all who came out for the patriotic event. It was great seeing so many of you and hearing your stories of how your life is going.

And I would be amiss If I did not mention that in the last few weeks, we have celebrated our 55th wedding anniversary. It is so wonderful to be married to the same man for so long and to still be alive to tell about it. And yes, he was my high school sweetheart, even though he was a few years older than I.

In every marriage, there is a point at which you have to pivot. So it is in a business. As most of you know, it has been very tough going for small businesses and even some businesses that are much, much bigger than mine.

But, being as stubborn and determined as I am, it is hard for me to pivot, but I know at this time I must. So, I just wanted to tell you about some of the little changes I’m making in the business.

First of all, I plan on going another direction, and as far as the style of decor. Oh yes, I will always have the traditional as well as some contemporary, but I want to add a new dimension to the shop. And it will take time to get it to where I want, but I fell in love with a primitive look that we loved so many years ago when I was antiquing a few weeks ago.

No, this picture is not part of the shop’s look yet, but it will be on the same order in a new section of the shop. Probably by our Autumn Event.

Someone asked me is that coming back in style? And I ask myself did it ever go out? I think at that time we were just a little tired of it. But now it seems to generate a peace in me that I need right now. It’s so calming to think of the days when it was a simpler time and everything wasn’t seemingly falling down around us. Perhaps it was because I was younger then. Who knows? All I know is that when I was out antiquing, I happened onto this man’s booth in a small town right outside of Kansas City called Greenwood, Missouri.

I loved all the nods to a simpler time that he displayed. A time when we just lived and had fun with our kiddos. A time where, yes, finances were tight, but we seemed to make provisions for things that made us happy and made our homes a place of comfort and security.

And by the way, I made an Uncle Sam similar in some ways to the one in the picture. It sold right away, and I don’t even have a picture to show you.😊

So here goes to the addition of a new style. Can’t wait to get going on this, this very day. But it doesn’t happen overnight.

And then as I was out doing my daily walk yesterday, I looked out onto the field and I saw all these beautiful wildflowers. Did this just happen overnight or have they been there all along and I just wasn’t seeing them?

So, as my Mind start thinking of ways to incorporate all this beauty into my artwork, I did some research and found a way to dry flowers quickly and what I think is beautiful.

What a great way to preserve some of your wedding flowers or beautiful flowers your children or grandchildren have given you on special occasions. I can’t wait to get started on these projects.

I’m so thankful that pivoting a new direction is something my husband has learned to do very well. In our earlier years of marriage, he would get very frustrated with me because I had so many ideas and I knew I didn’t want to put all my eggs in one basket and only have one type of product. I’ve seen too many people do that, and they don’t stay in business.

So we’ve been in business since 1989, we still have a marriage, we still have very creative, entrepreneurial, children that love us, and we both still love the Lord more today than ever before and trust Him and that He knows what He’s doing. In all these years, He’s shown us how to pivot.

So what else in life could a person ask for? Even if these changes don’t fly, I’ve learned another way something won’t work—At least for me.

So here is to your life right now, especially if you are needing to pivot. Let’s go for it with all the gusto we’ve got and see what happens. I’m always excited at this point because I love new beginnings. And after 55 years of marriage, every day is the beginning of something new. And I love it!
