Hello, All.
Well, as promised, I wanted to show you the pictures of the updated furniture. I really do love how they turned out. One day, soon, I will take out the headboard and use a tufted one. However, right now, I am enjoying the look of how these pieces turned out.
I wanted the original stain to show through to give it an aged patina. There is only one thing about this project that I did not like. And that is that it took almost 3 weeks to dry completely! It only took a few hours to stain all the pieces, but 3 weeks to dry completely.

I think I mentioned in another post, that the pieces that I did in my barn dried faster than the ones I did in the house. My husband did not want to haul these big, oak, and very heavy pieces out to the barn. So since I was going to replace the carpet, I just stained them in the bedroom. I did get a little on the old carpet. Ooops! However, I knew it was being replaced. Yay!

The stain I used was General Finishes Black Gel Stain. I love the gel stain. I’ve used almost all of the other colors, but for some reason the black gel stain takes FOREVER to dry. But was it worth it?? Yes! Just keep in mind the other colors don’t take that long to dry. Only the black is that way. I did finish them with a polyurethane topcoat. I used a satin finish by Minwax. That was dry before the end of the day. Loved that!

And speaking of things we love, you ought to see all of the treasures we’ve brought in for our Autumn Open House, September 5 – 9. If I told you how much I love so much of the new stuff, you’d say she says that all the time. And you’d be right! But usually, I only buy things I love or see great potential in. And don’t worry. A preview will be coming in a few weeks.
Mark your calendars for September 5 – 9. Hope the weather is Autumn-ish. Hasn’t this preview of Autumn weather been wonderful here in our area? Kansas isn’t so bad, is it?
Love to all!
Debbie
