Hello, all of you wonderful customers. Just wanted to keep you all up to speed on what’s going on with Memories of Home and The Added Touch. And to remind you of the upcoming “Secret Sale” at the shop.

Yes, it not a misprint last week when we announced that everything in the shop is going to be 30% off. (There are some exclusions that apply. Restyled furniture and vintage architectural pieces.) Next week I am going to send lots of pictures showing you the treasures you might find if you join us next week for the “Secret Sale.” That’s June 17 and 18. Friday from 10 to 5 and Saturday from 10 to 3. Hope you can find some hidden treasures to take home.

Also, in the next few weeks we’re going to share some of the adventures we are having or have had. Like last week, I taught a paint class for Rhonda, owner of ReLove All Things Shabby. (If you haven’t visited our booths there, we’d like to invite you to visit the shop at 515 N. Woodlawn, in Wichita, Kansas.

Here’s the class: What a great bunch of people and they asked some really good questions about chalk paint and painting their pieces they have on hand. Most of them had never painted anything before. So I guess my biggest piece of advice to them was not to start out with an heirloom piece until you’ve had some practice. It’s just like anything else, it takes practice, practice, practice. Yes, anyone can do it. But to get the product you want, you have to experiment with what look you want and just the whole art of chalk painting. I’m not trying to scare anyone into not starting. Just don’t fool yourself into thinking that your first project is going to look like one you found on Pinterest and you loved the look of it.

One woman came in the shop the other day and said she wanted to paint her kitchen cabinets. Great.! So as I was talking to her about color, prep, type of cabinetry etc. I asked her if she had ever painted before. “No,” she answered. “This will be my first project. Everyone on Pinterest says how easy it is.” 😬

I have to be honest. I am still trying to get that perfect patina and it takes a lot of attempts before I get what I want. There’s a million different combinations out there. Experiment until you get the right one for the right project. It’s fun!

We can’t wait for you to come into our shop here in Rose Hill and see some of the projects April, of The Added Touch, and I have done. Maybe some will want to go home with you.😁 (We also have some finished pieces in our booths at RELove in Wichita.)

Hope we see you for our Secret Sale, June 17 and 18. Friday 10 to 5 and Saturday 10 to 3.
