Last week, Debbie showed you what a wonderful job my sister and her husband had done on remodeling their old farmhouse. I was reminded about the neat things they had done in re-using existing materials. Well, this summer I was given a special project in reusing some heirloom materials and have been wanting to show you all how things turned out.

A client brought me some curtains that had been made years ago by a relative. She had loved and kept them, appreciating all the work that had gone into making them. The curtains themselves were somewhat simple-just plain cotton, ivory fabric. But the trim on them was really special. There was yards & yards of hand crocheted “lace”, (not really lace, but an open patterned, somewhat thick trim) that had been lovingly made and sewn around all the edges.

My client came up with the idea of sharing this heirloom with the other female family members by turning the curtains into decorative pillows. It was such a great idea! Then, she informed me that she was giving me carte blanc on the designs, but she wanted them all to be different. So, the creative juices started flowing and here is what we ended up with:

Each pillow has it’s own personality, I think. Every once in awhile I get the urge to name my projects. This was one of those times. While I didn’t know the women who would eventually receive these treasures, I would have named them Janna, Kate, Emma, Catherine & Mary. I hope each one of them treasures their “new” heirlooms.
We have plenty of treasures in store for you during our Autumn Open House, September 6-10. If I was naming this event, I would call it the “Ambiance of Autumn”. Mark your calendars, you won’t want to miss it.
