It’s already here—the time you look either look forward to or dread each year. For me, I can’t wait for the party to begin! And sometimes a party happens when least expected.

After we finished eating at one of our favorite restaurants, all three of us, husband, myself and our son were walking out to our cars.

Unexpectedly a man walked up to my son. He was tattooed from his neck to his feet. He was a big burly kind of guy. Not one you’d expect to be aware of a young man like my son. But the twinkle in this man’s eyes told me something different.

He handed my son a bit of money, that my son (and so do I) thought was a lot of money. He made my son feel so special and told him to take the money and buy ice cream.

My son gave him a smile from ear to ear, and said “you keep money.” I told my son “son he wants to bless you.” He gladly took the money and told him thank you.

Everyone felt blessed for that interaction as we all walked to our vehicles.

But what happened next still blesses me. I told my son as we were driving away that we would have to buy ice cream some other time when we hadn’t eaten so much.

However, he said no. He said “boot.”

Well, if any of you have ever had a special needs son or even your mom or dad when they can’t speak and you have to fill in the blanks for them, you know I was baffled by what he meant.

So I said, do you want to buy a pair of boots with the money?

He said, “No, Fireman’s boot.”

?

Then it dawned on me, he wanted to give the money to the firemen when they are collecting money for under privileged ones at Christmas time.

Why would that surprise me? That’s just like my guy. Thinking of his friends (and everyone’s his friend)more than himself.

And isn’t that what God has called us to do not just during this season, but during the other 11 1/2 months of the year? Isn’t it great that God uses these months to teach us the way things should be for 12 months.

And isn’t it great the way God uses unexpected people to bless one and then have that one turn around and bless others.

And that my friends is why we celebrate Christmas; for what God has made possible through his son.

Party on!

Can’t wait to see you at our event next week beginning on Tuesday, 10 to 5. Wednesday, 10 to 3.
